BIG CARRIBOO ISLAND 1817 CENSUS

The 1817 census for Big Carriboo Island  is a bit of a mystery.  On January 2, 1811, Hector and John McKenzie purchased from Thomas Davison 380 acres of land on what was then called "great Carriboo Island."  The deed was recorded on June 30, 1813.  [Volume 4, pages 401-404]   Although the 1817 census does not refer specifically to Carriboo Island, it does list a Hector and John McKenzie next to each other.  Presumably this is the same team that purchased the above plot.  I cannot associate any of  the adjacent census entries with the island, however, which suggests that perhaps only the families of Hector and John McKenzie lived there at the time.  Click here to view the image of that census page:  Actual Image
