BIG CARRIBOO ISLAND 1838 CENSUS

The 1838 census for Big Carriboo Island covered seven principal households as far as I can tell.  The details are sparse, and the enumerator's math leaves something to be desired.   It appears, however, that roughly 40-50 people lived on the island at the time.  The key information is listed below.  For the actual image, click here:   Actual Image



Alexander Fraser, farmer; household contained 1 head, 1 male under 14, 1 female over 14, and 2 females under 6, for a total of 3 [sic] inhabitants.

Simon McLean, farmer; household contained 1 head, and 1 female over 14, for a total of five [sic] inhabitants.

James Harris, farmer; household contained 1 head, 2 males over 14, 3 males under 14, 1 male under  6, 3 females over 14, 1 female under 14, and 3 females under 6, for a total of  11 [sic] inhabitants.

Hector McKenzie, farmer; household contained 1 head, and 3 women over 14, for a total of 4 inhabitants.

Kenneth McKenzie, farmer; household contained 1 head, 3 males under 6,  and 2 females over 14, for a total of 6 inhabitants.

John McKenzie, farmer; household contained 1 head, 2 males over 14, 1 male under 14, and 2 females over 14, for a total of  8 [sic] inhabitants.

Donald McKenzie, farmer; household contained 1 head, 4 males over 14, 1 male under 14, 3 females over 14, and  2 females under 6, for a total of  9 [sic] inhabitants.
