The following table summarizes land transactions that took place on Big Carriboo Island between 1809 and 1915 and that were recorded at the registry of deeds in Pictou.  Although the registry maintains deeds dating back to 1771, I cannot find any from this early period that relate to the island. 

The Date Column refers to the date of registration, not the date of the deed itself, which was often a year or two earlier.  The Book/Page Column gives the first page of the registry of deeds reference.  Some records continue for several pages.  Unless otherwise noted, the transaction involved a deed.  If the transaction involved a mortgage, release, assignment of mortgage, appraisement, will, lease, or assignment of lease, I note that next to the book and page reference, using the abbreviations "M", "R", "AM," "A," "W," "L," and "AL," respectively.  Over time, I will try and give brief descriptions of the content of the actual deeds.   If you have any questions or observations, please e-mail the author:  Contact Author
